The concept for the landscape plan around the hospital consists of three different areas and atmospheres: the enclosed park forest, the open meadow and the gardens. The design connects the three different parts of the park and the individual buildings in the landscape as a whole. This connection is formed by a new path structure in the English landscape style. In the open meadow, the new hospital is positioned as a compact country house in the park. The Westerlicht and Cadet School buildings will be retained and stand as solitary monuments in the landscape. From the open meadow, the path structure makes an important connection between the Westerhout and the Alkmaarderhout. Large trees in this section serve as a link between the two park sides.

At the sunny rear side of the Westerlicht, along the path, an important role is reserved for a medicinal flower garden. This is an informal meeting place that consists of flexible furniture and a combination of medicinal plants and perennials. The pond will be enlarged and new trees will be planted along the natural bank of the waterway.
