Ceci n’est pas un monochrome
The theme of the Garden Festival de Chaumont-sur-Loire 2009 was color. B+B conceived this brief as an opportunity to design a monochromatic blue garden. Blue is the most abstract and tricky color. Although, a monochromatic garden doesn’t exist, no two plants have the same color blue. Annuals and perennials with different flowering periods and heights are planted which blurs the individual characteristics of each plant. One glowing blue field was created. The plant serves one purpose; contributing to the monochrome. The visitor looks out upon the blue field from a narrow terrace. The plants of the monochrome were exhibited in the garden house, where each plant exhibited its own characteristics and its own specific color which are highlighted in an entirely white space. It’s became an ode to the individual plant. Ceci n’est pas un monochrome.
